Drug-Free Tamil Nadu Awareness Outreach Conducted in Thuvarankurichi

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Kadayanallur Branch, in association with Makkah Nagar Muhyiddin Jamiya Masjid, organised a public meeting against alcohol and substance abuse on 5 September 2026 at the Makkah Masjid premises. The programme was conducted successfully with the participation of mosque administrators, women, students, and members of the community.
The programme included Qirath, an inaugural address, and a welcome address by the administrators of Makkah Masjid. Speakers highlighted the important role of parents, madrasa teachers, and school teachers in guiding and reforming children and helping them develop good habits.
Mr. Muhammad Ameen, State Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Editor-in-Chief of Samarasam, delivered the special address. He spoke about the social and economic consequences faced by individuals affected by alcohol and substance abuse, the accidents and hardships caused by addiction in everyday life, and the guidance provided by the Qur’an to help individuals overcome such challenges.
Sisters Bushra and Junaidha also addressed the gathering on the possibility of recovering from addiction and the Qur’anic approach towards addressing substance abuse.
GIO students conducted an engaging discussion on the reasons young people become addicted to alcohol and drugs, treatment and recovery methods, the importance of family support and community involvement, and the role of sports and physical exercise in preventing addiction.
As part of the programme, students from Makkah Masjid and Rahmaniyapuram Madrasas, along with women and female students, participated in an awareness rally. The rally started from Makkah Masjid, proceeded to Ansari Madrasa, and returned to Makkah Masjid.
Participants carried banners featuring messages against alcohol and substance abuse, highlighting the harmful effects of addiction on different organs of the body and the importance of maintaining good health. Construction workers along the route were also seen taking an interest in the messages displayed on the banners.
A book exhibition was also organised as part of the programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Makkah Masjid administrator Mr. Syed Ali, followed by tea and refreshments for the participants.
