All India Ideal Teachers Association (AIITA) Tamil Nadu is gravely concerned about the alarming shortage of teachers and its adverse impact on the quality of education in government schools across the state. Recent reports have highlighted a severe deficit of teaching staff, with 13,331 teaching positions currently lying vacant, exacerbating the educational crisis.
In light of the concerning situation observed in government schools, AIITA Tamil Nadu urgently urges the Tamil Nadu government to take immediate and decisive action to fill these vacant teaching positions. The allocation of Rs 40,299 crore in the 2023-24 budget for school education signifies the government's commitment to the educational sector, but this commitment must be translated into tangible efforts to address the critical shortage of educators.
The deplorable findings of the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) for 2022, which revealed alarming levels of learning deficiencies among students, underscore the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of the education system. AIITA Tamil Nadu firmly believes that quality education is a fundamental right of every child, and addressing the shortage of teachers is an essential step towards achieving this goal.
It is imperative that the Tamil Nadu government prioritizes the recruitment of qualified and dedicated teachers to fill the vacant teaching positions, ensuring that every student has access to a qualified educator in their classroom.
